After 400 'silent years' between the Old Testament and the New, Jesus one day visits a synagogue and opens Isaiah to chapter 61. The gospel of Luke records," The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind. to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord."
Jesus then closed the book, and astonished everyone- by saying, (v.31) " Today this Scripture is fulfilled in you hearing."
Jesus received HIs commissioning, anointing and release to start His ministry after being water baptized by John the Baptist in the Jordan river. H was driven into the wilderness by the Spirit and exited, after extreme testing, full of the Spirit of God. His first message/declaration as He started His ministry is recorded in Luke 4:17 " From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."
" For the Kingdom of God is not meat and drink, but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost." Rom. 14:17
